How the Bitunix leverage screen actually works: the 10,000,000 USDT max position at 50x is a risk-limit ceiling, not your buying power

10,000,000 USDT. That is the "max position under selected leverage" Bitunix shows on its Adjust leverage sheet at 50x on BTCUSDT, and it confuses a lot of first-time futures traders. It is not what your balance can open. It is the ceiling of the risk-limit tier that matches the leverage you picked.
The attached image is from Bitunix's own help-center guide to placing a futures order in the app. On the left, the Adjust leverage sheet on BTCUSDT in Cross mode: leverage set to 50X on a slider marked 1X to 125X, Open long (50X) and Open short (50X) each showing a 10,000,000 USDT max position, a note that the max position is limited by leverage, available funds and the risk limit, and the "Adjust Long and Short Leverage Simultaneously" toggle switched on. On the right, the order type menu: Limit, Market (selected), Trigger order and Trailing Stop.
Why the max position shrinks as leverage goes up
Bitunix caps position size by risk-limit tier. In its December 2025 notice raising BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT to 200x, the BTC/USDT tiers read:
- up to 100,000 USDT at 200x, 0.30% maintenance margin rate
- 400,000 USDT at 150x, 0.40%
- 1,000,000 USDT at 100x, 0.50%
- 4,000,000 USDT at 75x, 0.65%
- 10,000,000 USDT at 50x, 1.00%
- 20,000,000 USDT at 25x, 2.00%
So the 10,000,000 on the screenshot is the 50x row. Slide to 100x and the ceiling drops to 1,000,000; at 200x it is 100,000. The slider in the screenshot stops at 125X because the guide predates that change, so yours may go further. What you can actually open is still limited by the funds in your futures account.
What the leverage number does to a small account
Example, with made-up round numbers: 20 USDT of margin.
- At 10x: 20 x 10 = 200 USDT position. A 2% move against you costs 4 USDT, a fifth of your margin.
- At 50x: 20 x 50 = 1,000 USDT position. The same 2% move costs 20 USDT, all of it.
Liquidation arrives before that. A 1,000 USDT position sits in the first tier, so maintenance margin is 1,000 x 0.30% = 3 USDT. In an isolated position that leaves roughly 17 USDT of room, about a 1.7% move, before fees and funding. Treat that as a back-of-envelope figure and read the estimated liquidation price on the order panel before you open.
Cross or Isolated comes first
Bitunix defines Cross as one shared margin pool across all open positions, where profits and losses can offset each other, and Isolated as each position's margin, risk and PnL calculated on its own. With Isolated, the 20 USDT above is what that trade can lose. With Cross, the rest of your futures balance stands behind it. The margin mode button sits right next to the leverage button on the order panel, so set both together.
The rest of the setup
The flow in Bitunix's web and app guides: transfer USDT from the Spot account to the Futures account, open Futures, tap BTC/USDT at the top to search or pick a pair, set margin mode and leverage, choose an order type, enter the quantity or amount, tick TP/SL if you want exits attached, then Buy to open long or Sell to open short. Open positions show up under Positions, where you can set or edit TP/SL or close manually. Bitunix's own advice for beginners: low leverage, small size, strict stop-loss.
The sheet works the same way on ETH, SOL, XRP or LINK perps, though each pair has its own tier table.
Try it on before you trade: open the Adjust leverage sheet on any pair, slide from 10x to 50x and back, and watch the max position number move. If it drops as you add leverage, you are looking at the risk limit, not your buying power.
