One Friday wiped out four days of Bitcoin ETF inflows

the Oct 30 numbers ($643.2M out of BTC funds, $155.7M out of ETH) and three ways people misread them

Key takeaway

Four straight days of Bitcoin ETF inflows looked like a trend until Friday. KCEX's blog ran the Farside tables for October 26-30 and the arithmetic is blunt: $440.8 million came in Monday through Thursday, then $643.2 million left on October 30, so the week closed $202.4 million negative.

The Friday ledger

  • Bitcoin funds: -$643.2 million in total. IBIT -$233.7M, FBTC -$201.0M, ARKB -$129.5M, GBTC -$53.3M, BITB -$25.7M.
  • Ether funds: -$155.7 million. ETHA -$76.6M, the Grayscale mini trust -$34.1M, ETHE -$21.5M, ETHB -$19.5M.
  • IBIT and FBTC alone were $434.7 million, about 67.6% of the Bitcoin outflow.

ETH tells a different story

Ether funds were negative every day of the week: -$88.6M, -$60.2M, -$21.4M, -$105.5M, -$155.7M, for -$431.4 million in total. That is slow, steady redemption rather than one sharp reversal. Both groups together were -$633.8 million for the week, a figure that leaves out other fund types, OTC desks and futures, so it is not "total institutional selling."

Three misreads the article warns against

  1. "$643 million of BTC hit the market." Net redemptions are fund-level creations and redemptions. Shares can change hands between investors with no redemption at all, and market makers may hedge before or after the published number.
  2. "One headline caused it." October 30 also had a major exchange security incident and a tech-stock selloff. The flows fit lower risk appetite, but the article will not pin the whole figure on any single event.
  3. "Big funds equal retail panic." The aggregate does not say who sold; holders range from advisers to trading firms.

What would change the picture

The piece lays out three branches: stabilization (BTC flows back near zero or positive, ETH redemptions slow), persistent deleveraging (both keep redeeming while open interest shrinks and spreads widen), or divergence between the two. None of them is a price target.

One practical wrinkle for this weekend: ETF markets are shut until Monday while crypto keeps trading, so Saturday and Sunday price moves have no fund-flow data to pair with yet.
