Three settings to fix before your first MEXC futures order, and two of them lock once you're in a trade

On the MEXC app the Open Long button is the last step, not the first. MEXC Learn's beginner futures guide orders it as: set position mode, margin mode and leverage, then pick the order type, then place it. The catch is that some of those settings can't be changed once you have a position or open order.

The image is the official MEXC Learn cover for that guide: a blue phone with BUY and SELL candle bars, a cursor arrow and a couple of gold coins. No prices or account data.

Step 0: money has to be in the futures wallet

Wallets > Transfer > Spot to Futures > pick USDT > amount > Transfer.

Setting 1: position mode (locks while you have positions or orders)

  • One-Way: one position per pair, long or short.
  • Hedge: a long and a short on the same pair at the same time.

Found under the ... menu > Preferences > Position Mode.

Setting 2: margin mode (can change any time, doesn't touch existing positions)

MEXC's example with 1,000 USDT in the futures account and a 200 USDT BTC long:

  • Isolated: if it's liquidated, you lose the 200.
  • Cross: the whole 1,000 is backing it, and liquidation can take the whole 1,000.

Setting 3: leverage mode (locks while you have positions or orders, applies to every contract)

  • Simple: one leverage and margin mode for both sides.
  • Advanced: separate settings for long and short.

Order types in plain words

  • Limit: your price. A limit long priced above the last price just fills at market. Time in force: GTC stays until filled or cancelled, IOC fills what it can now and cancels the rest, FOK fills completely now or not at all.
  • Market: fills at the best available price. MTL (market to limit) turns any unfilled leftover into a limit order.
  • Trigger: like a stop-limit. Trigger on last, fair or index price; valid long-term, 7 days or 24 hours.
  • Trailing stop: the trigger follows the 10-minute high or low, (1 + spread) x high for a long entry, (1 - spread) x low for a short, with an optional activation price.
  • Post only: always maker, or it doesn't go in.

Units, and what "max openable" means

You can size in BTC, USDT or Cont. On BTCUSDT, 1 cont = 0.0001 BTC. The max shown is: available margin / [price x contract size x (initial margin rate + 2 x fee rate)], rounded down to whole contracts. The 2 x fee is there because the system sets aside room to open and close.

Before real size

Set the three modes once, then place a tiny order with each type you plan to use so you see where it lands: Open Orders if it hasn't triggered, Positions if it has.
