Zero fee isn't zero cost: the math on swapping 10,000 USDT to USDC on KCEX

A 0% fee label on a stablecoin pair is real, but it only covers one line of the bill. KCEX's guide on USDT to USDC conversion, out this morning, walks through the costs that still show up when the trading fee is zero.
The image is a live KCEX USDC/USDT spot page I captured logged out this morning: the 15-minute chart sitting around 1.001, the order book, and the fee line on the order panel reading maker 0% and taker 0%.
What the fee schedule actually says
KCEX's Aug 27, 2026 schedule lists 0% maker and 0% taker on eligible spot pairs. Pair-specific promos and the live fee page win if they differ, so check the panel on the pair you're actually trading.
Where the cost moves to
With no trading fee, the price you get is the cost. KCEX's hypothetical, on 10,000 USDT:
- Direct USDT to USDC at 0.9990: you receive 9,990 USDC.
- Going through another asset in two legs that each lose a bit (0.04%, then 0.07%): 10,000 x 0.9996 x 0.9993, about 9,989.00.
The direct route wins by roughly 1 unit, even though both legs were "free". On a 10,000 swap, every 0.1% of rate is about 10 units, and a 1% depeg is about 100. Those dwarf most fee schedules.
The network can erase the saving
The guide's example: you save $5 in fees by using a venue or route, but the withdrawal network costs $12 more. You're $7 behind. Move the coin on a network your destination supports, and check contract, memo or tag, and the minimum deposit before you send. Bridging to fix a wrong network adds its own risk.
Two more things people assume
- Maker or taker is decided by how your order fills, not by the label. A post-only order that would cross the book gets rejected rather than filled.
- USDT and USDC are not interchangeable promises. Redemption rights depend on who you are, and an attestation is not an audit.
Stress test before size
Ask what happens to your plan if the spread widens, if one side depegs for a few hours, or if the withdrawal is delayed. If any of those breaks the trade, it's too big or too time-sensitive.
Three numbers to write down first
The minimum amount you'll accept on the other side, the longest you're willing to wait, and the network you need it on. Then keep the record of what you actually got.
