DeFi getting started: your wallet signs, a smart contract holds the position

Decentralized finance is a set of programs on a public chain. You keep a wallet. The program holds the position. There is no support desk that can reverse a signature.

An exchange account is not a wallet

On a centralized exchange you have a login. The company holds the coins and shows you a balance. DeFi does not give you that login. A wallet creates a key on your device. The chain records what that key controls.

LiquidityFlow does not hold keys, route swaps, or take deposits. These pages explain the mechanics. A protocol’s own site is where a transaction is signed.

How to start without a large deposit

Pick one network you can pay gas on. Install a wallet from its official source, not a search ad. Send a small amount you can lose. Read one protocol’s documentation until you can name what the contract will do with that amount.

Use a data site such as DefiLlama to read a protocol’s listed contracts and chains. A listing is not a review and not a promise that the code is sound.

Questions

Does LiquidityFlow operate a DeFi protocol?

No. We publish educational notes and market data. We do not custody assets or send transactions for you.

Is DeFi safer than an exchange?

It is a different set of failures. You can lose a seed phrase, sign a bad contract, or deposit into a program that breaks. An exchange can freeze a login. Neither one is a savings account.
