AMD reports tonight after a two-day 18% slide.
Its beat over its own guide has shrunk three quarters running, and the last four reactions ranged from -17% to +19%
Key takeaway
AMD reports third-quarter results after the US close today, Tuesday November 3, and it walks in after the worst two-day stretch it has had in months. The stock fell 10.9% on Friday and another 7.5% on Monday, to $466.84, after Intel's own warning sent Intel down 28.6%.

That leaves AMD up roughly 118% for the year but about 28% below its October 6 high of $649.42.
The timing
The release usually lands around 4:16 PM ET, with the conference call at 5 PM ET (10 PM UTC). In UTC that is an hour later than the May and August reports, because the US clocks moved back on Sunday. If you track the event in UTC, re-check your alarms.
What the company guided in August
- Revenue of about $13.0 billion, plus or minus $0.3 billion, roughly 41% growth year on year
- Adjusted gross margin of about 56%
For reference, the second quarter brought $11.5 billion of revenue and adjusted EPS of $1.66. Data center revenue was $6.7 billion (up 107%), client $3.1 billion (up 23%), embedded $977 million (up 19%), and gaming $779 million (down 31%).
The number that actually moves the stock
The beat against the midpoint of AMD's own guidance has been shrinking: $670 million, then $450 million, then $340 million over the last three quarters. Published consensus for EPS sits around $1.68 across 13 estimates, with a spread from $1.46 to $1.84. Another widely watched tracker has $1.94 on $13.1 billion of revenue and an unofficial whisper of $1.98. When the consensus and the whisper are that far apart, a clean beat of the official number can still be read as a miss.
The things analysts are listening for on the call: the Helios rack and MI450 ramp in the second half, the 6 gigawatt Meta agreement, the roughly $8.2 billion World Labs deal, and whether the guide for the fourth quarter holds up after Intel's warning. Valuation adds pressure. At about 45 times forward earnings against a five-year average near 35, there is less room for a soft outlook. Nvidia reports on November 17, so the AI-chip read-through runs for two more weeks.
How big the reactions have been
The next-day moves after the last four reports were +2.5%, -17.3%, +18.6% and -7.0%. Two of four were double-digit, in opposite directions. Nobody should assume the direction; the useful planning number is the size.
The perp angle
AMD also trades as a USDT-margined perpetual. At about 10:27 AM ET today the AMDUSDT perp was at 490.62, down about 3.5% from its 24-hour open of 508.39. Leverage goes up to 20x, and the contract follows US hours: regular trading runs 9:30 AM to 4 PM ET, and outside that window it can switch to reduce-only, which means you can close but not open.
That rule matters tonight because the report lands after the close. Two habits from the August report are worth knowing. After that release the perp fell 8.3% over 24 hours, and in the first hour of the next session it touched 463.90, 11.8% below its pre-report 525.76. First-hour volume was about 79% of the final regular hour, while overnight volume ran at only 5% to 12% of normal. Thin overnight books plus a gap at the open is the setup to respect.
A worked example: a 2,000 USDT long at 4x uses 500 USDT of margin. A 17.3% drop, the size of the May reaction, costs about 346 USDT, which is roughly 69% of that margin before fees and funding. At 10x the same move would take the whole position.
Spillover to the crypto board
Big tech earnings nights tend to move risk appetite well beyond the stock. Last week's Intel shock coincided with $BTC.USDT drifting toward 77,000; at about 10:27 AM ET today the BTC perp sat near 77,250, down about 0.9% on the day, with funding at 0.022% per 8-hour interval and the next settlement at 11 AM ET. AI-linked tokens and high-beta names like $SOL.USDT, $ETH.USDT, $DOGE.USDT and $XRP.USDT often react to the same headlines.
A short checklist for tonight
- Size for a move of 15% to 20%, not the 3% to 5% that feels normal.
- Know whether your position can still be adjusted after 4 PM ET, or only closed.
- Read the fourth-quarter guide before the headline EPS.
- Do not treat a beat of the official estimate as a beat of the whisper.
Tonight is less about whether AMD beats and more about whether the guide is strong enough to repair last week.
