Two BTC longs, two leverage settings, one pair: what BloFin's Multi-Position mode keeps separate, and what it switches off

On most futures accounts, a second order on the same pair in the same direction is not a second trade. Buy BTC at 60,000, buy again at 58,000, and you end up with one blended long: one average entry, one TP/SL, one PnL line. BloFin's Multi-Position mode exists to stop that merge.
The image is the official cover art from BloFin's Multi-Position guide (published Aug 21, 2026): a BloFin coin under a magnifying glass. There are no prices or account numbers in it.
What it actually does
Multi-Position lets you hold several independent positions on the same USDT-M pair, in the same direction, at the same time. Each one keeps its own:
- entry price
- margin
- leverage
- TP/SL
- PnL
Adding becomes a deliberate choice. You either open a new independent position, or you pick which existing position the order belongs to. Only that position's size and average entry change, and its TP/SL is not adjusted for you, so update it yourself.
Don't mix it up with hedge mode. Hedge mode is what lets a long and a short sit on the same pair together. Multi-Position runs on top of hedge mode and is about holding more than one position per direction.
The example BloFin uses
Three BTC longs opened over about a week:
- 60,000: medium-term hold, target 72,000
- 58,000: more aggressive add on the dip, tighter target 64,000
- 62,000: breakout entry with its own stop under the breakout level
In standard one-way mode those collapse into a single position with one averaged entry and one exit plan. In Multi-Position each one lives or dies on its own terms. The same goes for leverage: a core long at 3x with a wide stop next to a short-term add at 10x with a tight one. If the 10x gets stopped out, the 3x keeps running.
It also makes your trade journal honest. When a good idea and a bad idea on the same pair merge, you only ever see one muddled result.
What has to be true before you can switch it on
- Futures Mode or Spot and Futures Mode (UTA), not Spot-only
- Single-currency margin (Multi-Currency Margin Mode is not supported)
- Hedge mode enabled
- Zero open positions and zero pending orders
That last one is a hard block in both directions, on and off. Plan the switch between sessions, not mid-trade.
Path on web: USDT-M Futures > Settings > Position Mode > Hedge Mode > enable Multi-Position > Confirm.
What stops working while it is on
- Copy trading, both as lead trader and as copier
- Trading bots: grid, DCA, signal and the others
- One-way mode and multi-currency margin
TWAP and scaled orders still work, but every sub-order books into the position that launched it. They never spawn new independent positions.
Where people get hurt
- Three separate BTC longs are still three bets on BTC going up. Separate tracking is not diversification. Add up the notional in one direction to see your real exposure.
- Isolated margin: each position has its own margin and its own liquidation price, and one being liquidated does not touch the others. That is the main safety property, but it also means three separate margin allocations instead of one shared one.
- Cross margin: every position draws on the same balance, so one sharp move can drag the health of all of them at once. That is why BloFin's guide leans toward isolated for this mode.
- How many positions you can hold per pair depends on your account tier, so check your own limit before planning a ladder.
Three questions before you turn it on
- Am I really running two different plans on this pair, or am I just averaging in?
- Can this account go without copy trading and bots while the mode is on?
- Will I put a TP/SL on every position the moment it opens?
If the honest answer to the first one is "just averaging in", standard mode already does that for you.
