BYDFi spot grid, explained without the hype
how the range and grid count work, and the three ways it still loses money

BYDFi's help center has a fresh explainer on its spot grid bot. Short version: you give it a price range and an amount, it splits the range into levels, buys when price drops to a level and sells when price rises to the next one. It repeats that as long as price keeps bouncing inside your range.
The image is a live, logged-out capture of BYDFi's grid trading bot page, cropped to the header with the robot and candlestick grid. No prices or account data in it.
What you set
- Price range: the lowest and highest price the bot will trade between
- Number of grids: how many levels the range is cut into, which sets the spacing between buys and sells
- Investment amount: the funds the bot gets
- Optional: an activation price so it only starts once the market reaches a level, and take-profit and stop-loss prices that shut it down
- Whether to sell your coins at market when you stop it
You'll find it under Trading Bots, then Spot Grid. Check the pair's volatility and liquidity first, and make sure your Spot balance covers the minimum shown.
Where it fits
Sideways markets, or markets that chop upward. It struggles when price runs hard in one direction and leaves the range.
Why it's different from a futures grid
It's spot. No borrowing, no leverage, no forced liquidation. That removes one big risk, not all of them.
Three ways it still loses money
- Price falls and stays down. The grid made small sell profits on the way, but the coins it bought are now worth less, and the overall result can be a loss. BYDFi says this plainly: the bot does not guarantee profit.
- Slippage at the start. When the bot launches it may need to buy some of the base coin at market. In thin or fast markets that buy can slip, come up short, or fail, and the bot may not start or may stop.
- Events outside the bot. Trading suspensions, delistings or cancelled orders can stop it or delay settlement.
When you stop it
Your funds leave your Spot account while the bot runs. When you stop, you either sell the coins at market (which can slip in a fast market) or keep them, in which case they keep moving with price.
