Five ways to get out of a BloFin futures position, and which one costs 3x more in fees

Most guides spend all their time on the entry. BloFin Academy has a full guide on the other half of the trade, and the useful part is that the close buttons do very different things. Picking the wrong one can mean paying taker fees you didn't need to pay, or flipping into a position you didn't size.

The image is the official cover art from that BloFin Academy guide: three coins with the Ethereum, Solana and XRP logos on a dark background. No prices or account data in it.

1. Close from the Positions tab (the one BloFin recommends)

Futures > USDT-M > Positions tab at the bottom > Close on the position > pick Limit or Market > enter price (for limit) and amount > Confirm.

Why it's the default: you see entry, current P&L, size and estimated liquidation price on the same row before you exit.

2. Opposite order from the order panel

Long? Place a Sell on the same pair. Short? Place a Buy. Faster if you're already in the panel, but you have to know your exact size or you risk leaving a remainder open.

3. Partial close

Same flow as a normal close, just type a smaller amount. What's left keeps its original margin and leverage. This is how you scale out of a winner.

4. Close All

One click in the Positions tab closes every open futures position, all at market. Built for "get me flat now", not for good fills. Fill prices depend on whatever liquidity is there at that moment. There is no way to pick a subset; anything less than everything is one position at a time.

5. Reverse

Closes the position and opens an equal one the other way, both at market. Two things to know: if your available balance can't cover an equal opposite position, BloFin opens a smaller one with what's available, and the size is also capped by market order limits. Check the new size after you press it.

The fee part people skip

A limit close rests on the book and fills as maker: 0.0200% on futures. A market close is taker: 0.0600%. That is three times more. On a hypothetical 10,000 USDT position, about 2 USDT vs about 6 USDT just to exit. If you are not in a hurry, a limit close is the cheaper exit. Close All and Reverse are always market.

Letting the exit happen without you: two TP/SL modes

  • Entire Position TP/SL: closes the whole position at your trigger, executes as a market order, only one allowed per position.
  • Partial Position TP/SL: closes only the amount you set, you can stack several on one position, and you can tick Limit so it exits at your price instead of at market.

Both are server-side, so they trigger while you are logged out. To add one to an open trade: Positions tab > TP/SL next to the position > Entire or Partial > trigger prices (and amount for partial) > Confirm.

Spot is simpler: closing means selling, using Limit, Market, Trigger, TP/SL or a Scaled order to sell in pieces.

After the exit

Order History shows filled orders. Position History shows the closed futures position with entry, exit, realized P&L, fees and timestamps. Reading the fees line there after a few trades tells you quickly whether you are exiting as a maker or a taker most of the time.

If you take one habit from the guide: decide the exit when you enter, and put the TP/SL on before you walk away.
