DOGE long on BloFin: one take-profit or two? Fee math for a split TP/SL at 1R and 2R (intermediate)

By Updated

Key takeaway

[Intermediate - TP/SL - DOGE perp] Two traders take the same DOGE long on BloFin with the same stop. One parks a single take-profit at 2R. The other closes half at 1R and half at 2R. Neither is wrong, but they get paid very differently, and the fee line is where most people stop doing the math.

The setup, from BloFin's public market data at 9:54 AM ET today

DOGE-USDT last traded at 0.07524, mark 0.0752, index 0.07526, inside a 24 hour range of 0.07459 to 0.0763. One contract is 1,000 DOGE and the lot size is 0.01 contract, so you can size in 10 DOGE steps.

The screenshot is the live BloFin DOGEUSDT perp page captured at 9:57 AM ET: last 0.07506, down 0.91%, index 0.07512, mark 0.07508, 24h high 0.07630 and low 0.07459, funding +0.0220% with 01:02:05 left, a 1h chart, the order book, and the order panel with Limit, Market and Trigger tabs plus the TP/SL tick box.

Example trade (an example, not a call): account 1,000 USDT, risk 1% (10 USDT), market entry at 0.07524, stop at 0.07450 just under the 24h low. Stop distance 0.00074 per DOGE, about 0.98%.

Sizing with fees inside the risk

  1. Taker fee in and out at the Regular 0.06% rate: 0.0006 x 0.07524 + 0.0006 x 0.07450 = 0.0000898 per DOGE.
  2. Loss per DOGE at the stop: 0.00074 + 0.0000898 = 0.0008298.
  3. Size: 10 / 0.0008298 = 12,050 DOGE, which is 12.05 contracts and about 906.64 USDT of position value.
  4. Check: loss at the stop comes to 10.00 USDT including both fees.

Plan A: one take-profit at 2R

2R is 0.07524 + 2 x 0.00074 = 0.07672, a little above today's high. If you tick Limit on a Partial Position TP/SL, the exit rests as a limit order at the 0.02% maker rate. Gross gain 12,050 x 0.00148 = 17.83 USDT. Minus the entry fee (about 0.54) and the maker exit (about 0.18), net is about 17.11 USDT, or 1.71R. Exit as a market order instead and the same win nets about 16.74 USDT.

Plan B: half at 1R, half at 2R

1R is 0.07598. Two Partial Position orders of 6,025 DOGE each, both with Limit ticked. Gross 4.46 at 1R plus 8.92 at 2R. Minus the 0.54 entry fee and about 0.18 in maker exits, net about 12.65 USDT, or 1.26R, if both fill. If only the first fills and the rest stops out, the trade ends about 0.90 USDT down after fees instead of a full 10 USDT loss.

So Plan B trades about 4.46 USDT of upside for a much smaller worst case once 1R prints. That is the whole decision.

Settings that matter on BloFin

  • Trigger price type. BloFin lets TP/SL trigger on last, mark or index price. Mark and index move more calmly than last on a thin wick, which can mean fewer stray triggers.
  • Entire vs Partial. Entire Position TP/SL fills as a market order and there can be only one per position. Partial lets you set an amount and a limit order price.
  • OCO behaviour. When one leg triggers, the paired leg cancels.
  • Liquidation distance. BloFin's own FAQ says a stop order is not a foolproof measure against liquidation. At 20x, margin here is about 45.33 USDT, roughly 5% of position value, which leaves room beyond a 0.98% stop. At 75x there would be almost none.

Common mistakes

  • Setting the TP limit price exactly on the trigger in a fast move. If price gaps past it, the limit can sit unfilled. Leave a small offset or accept a market exit.
  • Forgetting funding. At 0.022% per 8 hours, a 906 USDT long pays about 0.20 USDT per settlement while the rate stays positive.
  • Scaling out with sizes below the lot. 0.01 contract is 10 DOGE; anything finer gets rejected.
  • Copying the same split on BTC, ETH, SOL or XRP without redoing step 1. Contract values differ by coin.

Short FAQ

Can I add TP/SL after the position is open? Yes, from the position row. Partial orders can be stacked.

Does a triggered order always fill? Not always. BloFin notes triggered orders can fail if the price breaks price limit rules.

Is 2R a magic number? No. It is just a clean way to compare two exit plans on the same risk.

Rule of thumb: if you check charts once a day, Plan A keeps it simple. If a winner turning into a loser bothers you more than a smaller win, Plan B is the better fit.
