BYDFi fee math: USDT-M 0.02% / 0.06%, open and close = size x price x rate

By Updated

Key takeaway

BYDFi USDT-M and COIN-M perpetual fees at the base tier are maker 0.02% and taker 0.06%. The math is the venue's own formulas: opening fee equals trade size times entry price times the fee rate, and closing fee equals trade size times exit price times the fee rate. That product is notional times the rate.

No invented size appears in this post.

The fee article that carries these figures was updated October 29, 2026. Spot on the same page is 0.1% / 0.1%. Futures grid uses the same 0.02% / 0.06% maker and taker pair. VIP tiers can lower the rates; the base tier is what a new account should budget against until the VIP page says otherwise.

Rate sheet used here

  • USDT-M and COIN-M maker: 0.02%
  • USDT-M and COIN-M taker: 0.06%
  • Spot maker / taker: 0.1% / 0.1% (spot only)
  • Futures grid: 0.02% / 0.06%

USDT-M formulas

Opening fee = trade_size x entry_price x fee_rate Closing fee = trade_size x exit_price x fee_rate

Trade_size x price is the USDT notional. So:

fee_side = notional x fee_rate

Same-notional round trip at base tier:

  • Maker / maker: notional x 0.04%
  • Taker / taker: notional x 0.12%
  • Mixed: notional x 0.08%

COIN-M note

COIN-M uses a different shape: (contract_size x multiplier / price) x fee_rate, with multiplier 1 on BYDFi's page. Do not paste a USDT-M estimate onto a COIN-M fill without redoing that step.

Break-even as a percent

When open and close notionals match, fee drag equals the round-trip rate:

  • Maker path: 0.04% of price
  • Taker path: 0.12% of price

Your edge has to clear that before funding before fees are covered.

Funding beside the fee

Funding is peer-to-peer. It is not removed by VIP. Per interval:

funding = notional_at_settlement x funding_rate

Flat at settlement means that interval's funding line is zero for you.

Pairs

The base perpetual rates cover USDT-M work on $BTC.USDT, $ETH.USDT, $SOL.USDT, $XRP.USDT and $DOGE.USDT. Always confirm the pair panel if a promo rate is showing for a listed symbol.

Mistakes

  1. Budgeting with spot 0.1% on a perp trade.
  2. Forgetting that open and close both charge.
  3. Treating leverage as a fee discount. It is not.
  4. Using a COIN-M formula on a USDT-M fill.
  5. Ignoring VIP only when you already qualify for a lower row.

FAQ

Are canceled orders charged? No. Unfilled or canceled orders are not charged.

Do bots use different futures rates? Futures grid lists the same 0.02% / 0.06% maker and taker pair.

How do I sanity-check? Notional x 0.0002 per maker side, notional x 0.0006 per taker side, then add both sides.

What should the capture show? The Transaction Fee Calculation page tables with USDT-M maker 0.02% and taker 0.06% readable.

Decimal form of the same rates

Maker 0.02% is 0.0002. Taker 0.06% is 0.0006. Same-notional maker / maker is notional x 0.0004. Same-notional taker / taker is notional x 0.0012. Use whichever notation matches the fee article you have open; both are the same published rates.

Worksheet before the click

  1. Confirm USDT-M versus COIN-M. The formulas differ.
  2. For USDT-M, notional = trade_size x price.
  3. fee_open = notional_open x rate.
  4. fee_close = notional_close x rate.
  5. Add funding only for intervals you will hold.

If you already sit on a VIP row below the base 0.02% / 0.06%, swap those percents into steps 3 and 4. The structure does not change.

Why canceled orders matter for estimates

Unfilled and canceled orders are not charged. That means a limit you pull before any fill does not create a fee line. Partial fills do: the filled quantity times price times rate is the fee. When you re-place after a cancel, treat the new order as a fresh fee event if it fills.

Grid and bot note

Futures grid on the same fee article lists maker 0.02% and taker 0.06%. Do not assume a bot path is free. If the grid fills as taker on both sides of a round trip, the trading-fee drag is still notional x 0.12% when notionals match.

Pair coverage and promos

Base perpetual rates cover USDT-M work on $BTC.USDT, $ETH.USDT, $SOL.USDT, $XRP.USDT and $DOGE.USDT unless a listing promo overrides a symbol. When a pair panel disagrees with the overview article, the panel wins for that symbol until the promo ends.

Funding checklist

Funding is peer-to-peer. VIP does not remove it. Before you hold overnight or across a settlement:

  • Read the next funding countdown on the pair.
  • Estimate funding = notional_at_settlement x funding_rate.
  • Decide whether the setup still clears fees plus that funding line.

Flat at the snapshot avoids that line for that interval. The trading-fee formulas above still apply on the fills themselves.
