Is a Bitunix market order really 3x a limit order? Fee and funding bill on a 10,000 USDT BTC position

By Updated

Key takeaway

Is a market order on Bitunix really three times the cost of a limit order? On the futures fee rate, yes: 0.0600% taker against 0.0200% maker at VIP 0. On a 10,000 USDT BTC position, that is the gap between a 12.00 USDT and a 4.00 USDT round trip.

What surprises most new traders is the second line on the bill, funding. This post works through both with Bitunix's published fee table and the live BTCUSDT funding rate from Bitunix public market data, taken Nov 4, 2026 at 7:53 PM ET.

Inputs

ItemValue
VIP 0 futures maker0.0200%
VIP 0 futures taker0.0600%
BTCUSDT mark, 7:53 PM ET80,720.3
BTCUSDT funding, 7:53 PM ET0.00253% per 8 hours
Funding cap and floor+0.3% / -0.3%

Bitunix lowers these rates at higher VIP levels, and you qualify by spot volume, futures volume or balance, whichever is highest. A fresh account is VIP 0.

Why notional, not margin

Bitunix's own fee formula is opening price x position size x fee rate, plus closing price x position size x fee rate. Position size here is the coin amount. So 10,000 USDT of BTC at 80,720.3 is 10,000 / 80,720.3 = about 0.1239 BTC, and the fee is charged on that full value whether you used 5x or 50x.

The fee bill, side by side

Opening:

  • maker 10,000 x 0.0200% = 2.00 USDT
  • taker 10,000 x 0.0600% = 6.00 USDT

Closing at the same price:

  • maker 2.00 USDT
  • taker 6.00 USDT

Round trip:

  • maker / maker: 4.00 USDT
  • taker / maker or maker / taker: 8.00 USDT
  • taker / taker: 12.00 USDT

If the close happens at a different price, redo the close line with the new price x 0.1239 BTC x the rate. A higher close price means a slightly bigger closing fee.

Funding on top

BTCUSDT funding settles every 8 hours on Bitunix, and the next settlement after this snapshot was Nov 5 at 3:00 AM ET. Bitunix shows the rate already as a percent per interval, so do not multiply it by 100 again.

Funding per settlement = notional x rate 10,000 x 0.00253% = 0.253 USDT

Positive rate, so a long pays about 0.25 USDT at that settlement and a short receives it. A taker / taker round trip held through one settlement as a long costs 12.00 + 0.25 = about 12.25 USDT.

At this snapshot, funding was small next to fees. That is not a rule. The rate can move toward the 0.3% cap, and at the cap a single settlement on 10,000 USDT would be 10,000 x 0.3% = 30 USDT, more than double the whole taker round trip.

Break-even move

Fees alone on the taker round trip: 12.00 / 0.1239 = about 96.9 USDT of BTC price movement before you are flat. With maker on both sides: 4.00 / 0.1239 = about 32.3 USDT.

Mistakes worth avoiding

  • Pricing a "limit" order through the book. It fills instantly and pays taker.
  • Multiplying the Bitunix funding figure by 100. It is already a percent.
  • Holding over a settlement out of habit when the trade plan was intraday.
  • Sizing by margin, then being surprised the fee looks large against it.
  • Assuming every pair settles every 8 hours. Some low-liquidity pairs settle more often, so the per-day cost can be higher.

FAQ

Q: Is the fee the same for ETH, SOL, XRP or DOGE perps? A: The VIP 0 rate applies across USDT futures. The funding rate and interval are per pair, so check each one.

Q: When is funding charged? A: At the settlement countdown on the trading page. If you are flat at that moment, you pay nothing.

Q: Does a VIP discount touch funding? A: No. VIP changes the trading fee rate only. Funding is exchanged between traders.

Q: Quick way to sanity check? A: Notional x 0.0006 for a taker side, x 0.0002 for a maker side, notional x funding percent / 100 per settlement.
