BloFin BTC fee math on 10,000 USDT: 4.00 vs 12.00 in fees, plus what the 8-hour funding adds (Nov 4 rates)

By Updated

Key takeaway

A 10,000 USDT BTC position on BloFin costs 4.00 USDT in trading fees if both sides fill as maker, and 12.00 USDT if both sides fill as taker. That 8.00 USDT gap comes from one choice you make twice per trade: rest a limit order in the book, or hit the book right now.

Then funding adds a second cost that keeps running for as long as the position is open. Here is the whole bill, worked step by step with BloFin's published fee schedule and the live BTC-USDT funding rate pulled from BloFin's public market data on Nov 4, 2026 at 7:53 PM ET.

The rates used

  • Regular tier futures maker fee: 0.0200%
  • Regular tier futures taker fee: 0.0600%
  • BTC-USDT funding rate at 7:53 PM ET: 0.011076% per 8-hour interval (positive, so longs pay shorts)
  • BTC-USDT mark price at 7:53 PM ET: 80,710.3

Higher VIP tiers on BloFin cut these rates, based on 30-day volume or assets. Everything below uses the Regular tier, which is where a new account starts.

Step 1: fix the position size in notional, not margin

Fees are charged on notional value (price x quantity), not on the margin you put up. A 10,000 USDT position at 10x uses about 1,000 USDT of margin, but the fee is still worked out on the full 10,000.

At the 80,710.3 mark, 10,000 USDT of BTC is 10,000 / 80,710.3 = about 0.1239 BTC.

Step 2: the opening fee

  • Maker open: 10,000 x 0.0200% = 2.00 USDT
  • Taker open: 10,000 x 0.0600% = 6.00 USDT

A limit order that rests in the book and gets filled later pays maker. A market order, or a limit priced through the book so it fills at once, pays taker.

Step 3: the closing fee

The closing fee uses the closing price x quantity, so it moves a little with price. If you close at the same price:

  • Maker close: 2.00 USDT
  • Taker close: 6.00 USDT

Round trip totals:

  • Maker in, maker out: 4.00 USDT
  • Taker in, maker out (or the reverse): 8.00 USDT
  • Taker in, taker out: 12.00 USDT

Most people stop here. Do not.

Step 4: add funding

Funding is paid between longs and shorts, not to the exchange's fee line, and it settles every interval while you hold. BTC-USDT on BloFin settles every 8 hours. The next settlement after this snapshot was Nov 5 at 3:00 AM ET.

Funding per settlement = notional x funding rate 10,000 x 0.011076% = 1.1076 USDT

So a long held through that settlement pays about 1.11 USDT, and a short receives about the same. If you open taker, close taker and sit through one settlement as a long, the bill is 12.00 + 1.11 = about 13.11 USDT.

The rate is reset every interval. The settlement before this snapshot paid 0.0096%, and the ones before that paid 0.0220%. On 10,000 USDT that is 0.96 and 2.20 USDT per settlement. Same position, different cost, only because the rate moved.

Step 5: compare it to what the trade has to make

Price has to move enough to cover the fees before you are even. For a taker round trip at 12.00 USDT on 0.1239 BTC, that is 12.00 / 0.1239 = about 96.9 USDT of BTC price movement in your favor, before funding.

Common mistakes

  1. Working fees out on margin. A 1,000 USDT margin at 10x pays fees on 10,000, not on 1,000.
  2. Assuming a limit order is always maker. If your limit price crosses the spread it fills at once and pays taker.
  3. Forgetting the close. Every round trip pays twice.
  4. Treating funding as a one-off. It repeats every interval you hold, and its sign can flip.
  5. Reading the rate as a daily number. BloFin shows it per interval, and intervals differ by pair.
  6. Ignoring leverage. Higher leverage does not change the fee rate, but it makes the fee a bigger share of your margin.

Quick FAQ

Does leverage change the fee? No. The rate is applied to notional. Leverage only changes how much margin backs that notional.

Who pays funding when the rate is negative? Shorts pay longs.

Do the same rules apply to ETH, SOL, XRP or DOGE perps? Yes, the formula is identical. Only the funding rate and interval change by pair, so check the pair's funding line before you size up.

Can I avoid funding? Only by not holding a position through a settlement time.
